One of the most common hiccups I see during the software conversion process is failure to prepare staff for the challenges of a software conversion. Especially in very hierarchical organizations with a strong top-down management style, it’s often just assumed that staff will simply adapt to the new software system. This is a very serious miscalculation. If staff are not prepared for the change, it not only increases the stress of the conversion itself…it can kill the entire project and lead to other serious problems like a mass staff departure or worse.
